July scrap layouts

There is a new design team at Home and Scrapped and they have come up with some fresh ideas to challenge us.  Here are my layouts for this month.

 Bec challenged us to Christmas in July, a layout and twinchies.

 Joy asked us to use pink, green and white.

 Amy suggested a layout on the diagonal..........this is Tim with his new car.

 Another holiday memory page for our Build A Page challenge.  The tag was received from Suzanne in a swap.

Plus some Christmas cards from sweet bits and pieces received in previous swaps.

Hibernating!

That is what has happened here, with the shorter days and the cooler weather, I have been hibernating..........but not idle.

June was busy with scrapping pages, knitting and crochet to use up all those leftover bits of yarn lurking in my basket.  I completed a granny square rug for my son's place, helped to make a warm blanket for a homeless person, and have started more knitted squares.  There are so many out there who need help.

Here is some of what has been achieved while hibernating!

Christmas cards for Australian troops serving overseas.

Jemma Hayward at Home and Scrapped has brought this great idea to our attention.

I have been busy making a dozen or so cards for the cause..............

"CALLING ALL AUSTRALIAN CARDMAKERS 

It's time for our Christmas card drive for our Australian Defence Forces currently serving overseas. 

This is our 5th Christmas of collecting christmas cards for our Aussie Diggers/Troops. 

We would so love and appreciate any and all donations of hand made christmas cards for our troops, all cards need to be received no later October 26th 2012. So they may reach our diggers in time to write on them and post them back to Australia to their loved ones. 

A couple of things to remember when making christmas cards for this cause. 

Please leave the inside of the card blank so the diggers can write in them. 

Please provide an envelope with each card. 

Please place all cards and envelopes in a clip lock plastic bag with the total number of cards written on the outside of the plastic bag with your name on them. This is important as it assists with counting and packaging of the cards when sorting specific numbers serving in specific regions. It is equally important to put your name on it, so that i can add your name to the many of you all to say thank you for your contribution on the blog roll of wonderful australian card makers who donated this year. 

Rest assured that all cards do reach our troops in many countries around the world, Iraq, Afghanistan, Samolia, East Timor and out to sea for our Navy. Nothing more brings a tear to my eye, when i receive a letter or email thanking you all for your wonderful donations. Or i am approached by a MUM who received a gorgeous handmade christmas card from her daughter or son last year whilst they were over seas serving, thanking us for providing this service. So check back on this blog from time to time, as i quite often upload photo's of letters or emails of thanks. I know that the National Defence Services in Canberra express their gratitude verbally to me each year and i dont always remember to pass it on to you all.

Heather's sketches

Heather's sketches have kick-started my missing mojo, and the pre-retreat challenges over at Red Earth have added to it.  The layouts are not the most fabulous in the collection, but after a lull, at least I am going again.

Nice to spread out and do a double page layout for a change.  These pix were taken at the lookout on Thunderbolt's Way.

And finally, a card from leftovers for the stash, using a ribbon flower gifted in a swap.

On the home front, we now have two pairs of cute little Zebra finches living at our place in a new taj-mahal aviary built by DH, who is now busy making nesting boxes for them.  Would be so exciting to have baby birds!  They are great little time-wasters, so cute to watch, and not nervous of us at all.

Sewing, scrapping and cards

This gorgeous photo of Mia was taken on our family picnic during the Christmas holidays. I couldn't wait to use it on a layout, this was the step-by-step page we did at Home and Scrapped last night. I turned the design sideways to suit the photo but I am happy with the way it turned out. Flowers are hand made by Heather Waldron. Beautiful, aren't they?




Red Earth had a challenge to make some cards from the bits lurking on the desk! I think I could have made heaps more as my desk is chaotic at the moment. A fun challenge to use up scraps!



Sorting through the fabrics to complete my vintage fabric swap patchwork, I came across these little 9-patch blocks. Instead of pushing them back in the cupboard, I sewed this little table runner...........nice to have them turned into something useful.
